1.                WELCOME:

Derrick welcomed all to the meeting.

2.                MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:

3.1              Corrections:  Nil

3.2              Approval of Minutes:  The Minutes were approved by Keith Knorr and seconded by

                   Mike Hunter.

3.                MATTERS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES:

                   Nil.

4.                FINANCIAL REPORT:

Sanet Bruins-lich reported on the funds raised from the Honorary Rangers' Fair as follows:

Grass seed – R60;  White Elephant Stall – R70;  Animal spoor – R280;  Posters – R480;    Donations – R189 and 7                          new members.  Total funds received last year R1785 and this year     R1614.   Marilyn Bowie had nothing new to                              report.

5.                MEMBERSHIP:

As reported, 7 new members were signed up at the Honorary Rangers' Fair.

6.                FORUM MINUTES:

The Forum Minutes should be circulated to the general public and Derrick Bruins-lich and Geoff Sander will bring this to                    their attention.

7.                ALIEN PLANTS:

Stuart Long did not have much to report – same as last month.  Errol Potgieter mentioned that the Honorary Rangers                       had been busy with other commitments but will probably start on Monday with alien plants.  He displayed two alient                           plants to the meeting viz Jacob's Ladder and the Potatoe Creeper.  Terry Ramsay asked how to eliminate the alien                           plants.  Stuart suggested   pulling them out by the roots  as they are not easily poisoned.  Derrick suggested phoning                       Uschi Powell on 072 908 0350 who will come and collect and dispose of the alien plants. Plants such as The                                     Queen of the Night could also be taken out and thrown onto the road to be crushed by cars' tyres.

8.               REPORT BACK FROM HONORARY RANGERS' FAIR – 08 JULY 2017:

Sanet reported on the funds raised.  Please see Item 4 – Finances.

9.               REPORT BACK FROM NATURE WALK – 15 JULY 2017.

Keith reported that the walk had been well attended with 15 people and 15 people had attended the breakfast.  The           Veterinarian from Israel had given Keith a very good write up on his Facebook Page.  Derrick suggested that Keith give     another tree identification course – possibly next year..  The next walk will take place on 19 August 2017 at 07h00 at           Henk van Rooyen Park after which future walks will commence at 06h00.

10.             CROC PAN WATER ASSESSMENT:

Stuart had taken samples of the water into Nelspruit for testing and the report has been received.  Keith said that the                       water had been tested to see whether fish would survive.  There was no mention of heavy metals in the report and the                     ammonia, nitrites and nitrates were good from the fish point of view.  Nothing wrong from the results of the test and the                     report will be placed on the Facebook Page.  Phillip van der Merwe asked if there were fish in the dam and what would                     the fish feed on as there were no plants in the dam.  Derrick replied that there are small fish e.g. tilapia plus one small                       croc (possibly surviving on the small fish) living in the dam.  Keith mentioned that there is algae in the dam and plant                         eating fish would be able to survive on the algae.

11.             GRUISPAN - ELECTRICITY:

Stuart and Errol handle Gruispan and Conservancy is doing EFT payments for the meter so everything is fine there.

12.             CROCODILE ROAD – ERRANT OSTRICH:

Stuart had experienced a problem with an ostrich in Crocodile Road and just wanted to bring this to everyone's                                 attention.  Further discussions followed.  Problems arise when wild animals –  including ostriches – are being hand fed.                     They become upset when they are expecting food and nothing is forthcoming.

13.              GAME PELLETS:

Derrick said that there was still a bit of grass in the bush and that they would possibly look at buying game pellets within                    the next month or so.  Keith suggested we wait until after the culling has taken place.  Derrick said the culling should be                    taking place soon as they were waiting for the holiday season to end.

14.              GENERAL:

14.1            Dot Knorr suggested that either at the December fete or at next year's fair, a donations box be placed at the snare's                          stand as this had created immense interest.   The bones need to be on a table as people walked straight past the rhino                    without seeing it.  Geoff suggested that another stand be booked for next year in order to display all the items.

14.2            Keith invited those interested in trees to join them for tree tagging on Thursday 27 July 2017 at 07h00 at Backpackers                      on Olifant Road just before Renoster Road.

14.3           Terry Ramsay asked if there was anything that could be done about the cars speeding on the roads.  Derrick said that                        this has been a problem for over 20 years.  However, hopefully the Municipality will employ more law enforcement                            officers to assist with the problem.

14.4           Charmaine Meredith said that they had an old laptop which they would readily donate to Conservancy.   Derrick thanked                   them very much and asked Keith to call around to Keith and Charmaine and collect the laptop.  Discussions followed on                   having sound over the TV screen installed.

14.5           Noel Flanagan mentioned that the residents of the squatter camp were helping themselves to water at the gate.                               Bundles of wood were also being brought into the squatter camp.  Derrick said there was nothing that could be done re                     the water but he would definitely talk to Alfas about the wood.  John Marais mentioned that MPPOA was busy dealing                       with the closure of the gate at Makarios but this was quite involved.

14.6          John Marais offered to donate a Lexus printer to Conservancy which was gratefully received.

15.            DATE OF NEXT MEETING AND CLOSE:

The next meeting will take place on 22 august 2017 at 09h00.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, THE MEETING CLOSED AT 09H47.
