Minutes of the Meeting held at 09.00 on Tuesday, 23rd MAY 2017, in the Boardroom at Henk van Rooyen Park, Marloth Park

1.    Welcome:       

 The Chairman welcomed all present and opened the meeting with a prayer.

2.    Apologies. Thea Sander

3.    Minutes of the previous meeting held on 21st March 2017.

3.1    Matters arising out of Minutes of 21st March 2017.

      3.2    Amendments to the minutes of 21st  March 2017

       3.3    Acceptance of the minutes held on 21st March 2017 : Proposed:  by Marilyn Dowie and

                Seconded Errol Potgieter  

4.    Finance.

                 4.1    The Audited books returned from Mr. Peter Hocknell and was tabled.  Sanet Bruins-Lich read

                 out the comments by Mr P Hocknell.   Marlothii Conservancy is proud to have received a good

                 audit.

5.    Membership.

       Geoff Sander read out the membership report as Thea Sander was not present.    Mike Norton

       suggested that Conservancy Committee members join them on their membership drive.

       Geoff Sander noted that his son will write a workable programme for Conservancy for the

       membership.

6.    Alien Plants.

       Errol Potgieter from Marlothii Conservancy joined the Hon. Rangers on their drive in controlling the

       alien plants in Marloth Park.

7.  Gruispan.

       Gruispan is being monitored by Stuart Long.   Croc dam across the road from Gruispan was tested by a

       team from MTPA to try and find out why it seems there are no life.  The Chairman noted that the

       drilling company’s name and that of Mr. Kemp was added to the board at Gruispan.

8.   Two Trees Parking Area.

       Geoff Sander noted that with the permission of Hon. Rangers, the old poles at the entrance and exit of

       two trees were removed and new poles planted.  The old broken poles at the lookout was replaced and

       painted with creosote.  Derrick Bruins-Lich noted that the work at two trees are virtually completed

       except for the “Stompie Bins”.    Mrs Dowie mentioned that it would be better if people take their

       cigarette buds with them as it looks terrible.  The wire mesh will be replaced with a lid.

9.    Grass Seed.

       No sales.  Keith Knorr enquired whether there are more grass seed available.  Derrick confirmed that

       we still have a bag.

10.   Report back on Nature walks.

        The nature walk on the 20th May 2017 was very well attended.  18 people although not a lot to talk about, something                       interesting always seems to appear.  The Chairman mentioned that it seems there

       are more spiders and insects around.

              

 11.  General.

        11.1      Report back from Forum Meeting.

                     No Forum meeting took place within the last month.

           

.       11.2     Tree Tags.

                     117 Trees were identified along Olifants drive.  A list of 74 were chosen and will be tagged.

        11.3      Facebook & Webpage.

                     Our webpage can be found at www.marlothiiconservancy.co.za.

                     The web- and facebook pages are updated regularly. 

                      

         11.4      Non-Smoking Signs at the Look-Out.

                     These signs disappeared.  A property owner had some made up and displayed again.

         

          11.5     Entrance at Henk van Rooyen.

                      Keith Knorr requested Mike Norton to discuss the incident on Saturday whereby the guard at

                      the entrance wanted to charge R20-00 entrance fee.  It happened a few years ago and seems

                      to be starting again.  Sanet suggested that an official letterhead be sent to MPPOA.

 

        The meeting closed at 09h55.

 The next meeting will take place on 20th June 2017 at 09H00 at Henk van Rooyen.
