1.   Welcome:

The Chairman welcomed Hume du Toit and Llewellyn Burger to their first Conservancy

meeting.  The Chairman opened the meeting with a prayer.

 

2.   Apologies.

3.    Minutes of the previous meeting held on 23rd August, 2016.

3.1 Amendments to the minutes of 23d August 2016. - None

 3.3 Matters arising out of Minutes of 23rd August  2016:

 

4.    Finance.

4.1   Tabled financials for the year.

4.2   New Signatories plus EFT authorising meeting with bank. Mr Stuart Long, Mrs. Dot Knorr and Sanet Bruins-Lich made and appointment with the bank and signatories were done.  Keith Knorr enquired about proof of payment done on EFT.  Sanet and Stuart explained that a receipt will be printed and handed to the Treasurer.

 

5.         Membership.

Dot Knorr thanked Derrick and Sanet Bruins-Lich as they got 8 new members during the month of August.  Peter Hocknell was the 9th.  Sanet requested that a personal note be sent

to all members whose membership lapsed.

 

6.         Alien Plants.

            Derrick Bruins-Lich, Stuart Long, Keith Knorr and Linda Benade will attend. 

      

 

 

 

7.  Gruispan.

      7.1 Drilling Borehole

The Chairman explained the procedure that Donald McLellan followed in trying to find out the problem why the old borehole pump was not working.   The old pump was sent to a company in Mokapane where tests will be done to try and establish what the problem was.  Donald also gave quote to a pump to be used in the new borehole. 

            Derrick mentioned that the amount came to R13 250-00.  Derrick undertook the consult

            with the contractor.  Derrick also mentioned that he had contacted another person for a

            second quotation.

 

             After a long discussion it was decided to wait for the old pump to be returned.

     

      7.2 Sweet potatoes are getting less but can still be collected in a group.

 

8.    Sickle Bush Thinning.

It was discussed and mentioned that it would be a good time to do some sickle bush       thinning before the rain season.  It was decided to advertise it again on Facebook.

 

9.    Grass Seed Sales.

The Chairman suggested we find someone who is either coming or going up to Johannesburg and fetch some more seed.     Marilyn said she will enquire whether she could find someone to bring it down to Marloth Park.  Sanet Bruins-Lich enquired whether we can establish how much money was made on the sale of grass seed.  Dot Knorr said she will look into this request.

 

10.  Report back on Nature walk – 19th July 2016

11 people attended this walk. Keith Knorr mentioned that he went through tree         identification with the guests, with a breakfast afterwards at Jabula Lodge.

       The next walk will take place on17th September 2016  at 6 o’clock.

           

11. General.

       11.1  Report back on Forum Meeting –  20th August 2016.

    Game culling is going well.  Only -+ 30 Impala left to cull.  Warthogs are ongoing.  Feed

    has been coming in some from “Boere in Nood” as well as private donors.   Apparently

    the rhinos are gaining weight.  Hume du Toit asked whether some of this food will be

    distributed amongst the animals in Marloth Park as well.  Derrick explained that mostly

    for the animals in Lionspruit.

     

       11.2  Tree Tags.

                Stuart Long produced various tree tag examples.   Stuart Long requested Keith

                Knorr to contact the company and make all the necessary information for the committee

                to come to a decision on which will be purchased.  Geoff and Thea Sander will decide

                when to start the identification of trees on Olifants road.  Sanet Bruins-Lich mentioned

                that a digitised logo was available on CD and may be used if needed.

 

       11.3  Web Site and Facebook

                Sanet Bruins-Lich said she spoke to Dr. Andrew Hudson and is will be in Marloth Park

                soon and will be more than willing to meet with her and Thea Sander who will try and

                operate the web page.   The Marlothii Conservancy facebook page is operated by herself

                and Thea Sander.  Interesting snippets and other information is posted from time to time.   

                Conservancy members are welcome to join this page.

 

                Sanet Bruins-Lich explained to the meeting the reason why Marlothii Conservancy was

                not included on the Mppoa 3 monthly newsletter.

 

      

 

       11.4    Protective Clothing.

                  After a recent accident which happened at one of the Marloth Park organisations work

                  Party it was decided to enquire about protective clothing.    A quotation was obtained

                  For protective clothing in Nelspruit and the amount came to R1 600-00 for the necessary

                  equipment.  Marilyn Dowie enquired about an insurance for the person operating the

                  chain saw.    Derrick Bruins-Lich explained the procedure and said he had made

                  enquiries regarding the operating procedures of the chainsaw.   Stuart Long will

                  enquire at Rudemans.  Mr. Alf Felgate said we must way up income and expenditure

                  on this machine and decide whether it is feasible to carry on with the machine.

 

      Dot Knorr requested that the donation made to Tom and Annemarie Esterhuizen while

      out on another organisations work party and was injured, be explained to our members. 

                  They have no medical and as Tom was send to a State Hospital, didn’t get proper

                  attention and infection set in.  Tom was then advised to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon at a

                  private hospital.  The Surgeon’s diagnosis was not very good.  Donations to help the

                  Esterhuizen family was started and the Marlothii Conservancy Committee felt obliged

                  to  make an donation as the work done was for Marloth.

 

Annemarie Esterhuizen would like to thank each and every person for donations, love and encouragement they experienced during their time of need.

 

 

With no further business to discuss the meeting closed at 10h30.

 

 

The next Marlothii Conservancy Meeting will take place 20th SEPTEMBER 2016
